Free to enter, Monash Undergraduate Prize for Creative Writing, top prize: $4,000 (Australia)

Monash University in conjunction with the Emerging Writers’ Festival is pleased to present the Monash Undergraduate Prize for Creative Writing, a prestigious new award for emerging literary voices.

First prize: $4000

Highest placed Monash University student: $1000

Winners will also receive tickets to the Emerging Writers’ Festival and paid publication opportunities in the festival publication, The Emerging Writer. Winners will be announced at the 2012 Emerging Writers’ Festival.

Judges: Ali Alizadeh and Fiona McGregor

Theme: Revolution

Genre: Creative Writing

All types of creative writing will be accepted, including short stories, poetry, non-fiction narrative and narrative verse.

Word length: 1500 – 3000 words

Closing date for entries: 23 April 2012

Entries should be uploaded via the entry upload form (coming soon).

Eligibility: Any student enrolled in an undergraduate degree at any university in Australia may enter. A student number and course code is required to enter. Please note that chapters from longer works are not eligible for consideration.

More information: travel to and from the Emerging Writers’ Festival is at the winners’ own expense. If the overall winner is a Monash University student they will receive both cash prizes, totalling $5000.
